Welcome to my fitness and health journal. I created this blog because I wanted a place where I could keep track of my efforts as well as share my physical successes with friends. I am not an athlete, health nut, etc. just a normal person wanting to challenge myself. This blog also helps keep me accountable for any goals I set. Don't let me slack off!

Hiatus...now back to work

I took a little break from my exercise routine due to a medical issue I had a few weeks ago. Now I'm back to business. I use to be able to sneak out to run around the neighborhood or hit the gym, but with my sitter MIA for the next 6 months, I had to find another way to get my work out in. Decided to try P90X. I've heard a lot of good things about it, so I figured I would give it a try. I attempted the first video (chest and back) yesterday. A lot of push ups and pull ups. I made it half way through and my upper body gave out on me. After further examination of the P90X regime, I found out there was a program that focused more on cardio and creating lean body mass. More my cup of tea. So day 1 officially started tonight with core synergistics. Didn't do too bad. 89 days to go.

Wii

Got the new Just Dance 2 game and played for a good hour or so. Probably should not count this as working out, but I surely broke a sweat.

Run

Went on a morning run in my old neighborhood with my sister. We took it pretty easy and walked the last .7 miles. The loops you see between mile 2 and 3 were done at the middle school track.

Tracy Anderson's Mat Workout DVD is an ass kicker...especially the standing arm exercises.

Slacker!!

I wish I could say that I was having computer problems and that's the reason I haven't posted in the past few days...but truth is I haven't worked out in since Friday!! To make matters worse, I haven't been eating well either. Tsk tsk tsk.

Oh the shame

I had to make up for it today. I ran before dinner (so I couldn't use the excuse that it was dark out or the gym was closed).

My phone died partway through my run, so I'm guess-ta-mating my total distance.

Distance: 3.5 mi
Duration: 49 min
What my run looked like before my phone gave up

I downloaded a bunch of running tracks from a website called Pod Runner. Coincidentally, they obtain their music from my brother's company, Beatport. There are tracks with a single BPM (beat per min) throughout or interval mixes that has alternating speeds for someone to run/walk to. This is what I listened to today: "APositive Spin" 142 BPM I think it was a little slow for the pace I was going at, but the techno-ish music is perfect for working out.

Run

It felt good to run outside today. I was able to keep a good pace and ran without breaking to stop or walk. I probably would have gone a bit longer, but the sun went down a lot sooner than I expected.

Distance - 3.05 mi
Duration - 40.09

Couldn't make it to the gym in a timely manner....Glee was on TV! By the time I got there, I only had an hour before our community gym closed. I squeezed in a run and some weights.

Distance - 1.5 mi
Duration - 22 min

3 sets of 10 reps of the following:
Lat pull downs 30lbs
Mid Rows 30lbs
Bench press 20lbs
Bicep curls 10 lbs

Incline/Hike

I was determined to do the Incline and had no one to go with, so I went by myself! This was my 5th time ascending the mile of steps. I'm happy to report that I finished in one piece and achieved a personal record of 60 minutes!

I walked/jogged down the Barr Trail from the top of the Incline back down to my car.

Run

First day of running since the competition began. Started using this new iPhone application called RunKeeper. It uses GPS to trace your route and calculate distance and pace.

Ready...Set...Go!

A few of our friends decided they wanted to organize their own Biggest Loser competition (too bad it's one week AFTER Anthony and I hiked Pike's Peak...wasted energy. Ha...J/K). Feeling like I have been neglecting my health in terms of physical fitness, I decided to jump on board. The first step was to get a body mass analysis to determine starting weight and percent body fat. We were able to utilize the Bod Pod at the Health and Wellness Center on base. It uses compressed air to calculate body mass.

Although I am technically in the moderately lean category, I would still like to make it my personal goal to drop my percent body fat by a few points.

Day 1 Stats:
% Fat = 24.2 %
Weight = 121.608 lbs

Wish me luck!
